The factory front sight post has been replaced to a blade type. One of the better barrels from this age I have ever seen. It has nice clean rifling the bluing is 95% a few minor scratches and what not. Knowing this, one could conclude it is a 1976 to 78 Renegade Sharon barrel made for T/C. But because the rod guides are black steel, not brass, you could assume it to be from 1976 first year of the renegade model and July 1978 when Sharon closed the doors, with 1978 being the youngest dating possible. Hawkin or Renegade name not being on the barrel We can assume that it is not from the 1980’s era. It is not marked Renegade or Hawken so it is very early 1970’s to 1980’s It has a 6-digit serial(112194) but that can’t nail a date down for certain. This barrel does not have the Black powder Warning on it which puts it in to the pre. This is the shorter length Carbine style barrel. 1 in 66 twist checked by doing the patch method. It's going to be a try it and see how it works before going to the next stepĪs for cleaning up rust outside the bore, like around the nipple and breach area, most things that will dissolve rust will also remove the blueing or browning, naval jelly or Birchwood Casey's blue and rust remover will remove rust but it removes the blue, if you plan on reblueing or re browning the barrel that's not a big issue it's going to make it easier for you, if you're just wanting to clean it up around the nipple area it's better to soak it with penetrating oil to loosen the rust and use a bronze brush or that stainless steel wool. If it isn't too badly rusted under the old fouling they will work fairly well. im kinda happy with it but it ties on somehow to barrel, havent found a good or correct method for doing this part If its the one that slips over the butt and ties around the barrel. It's going to depend on how much rust is in the bore, bore brushes are bronze and might not take all of it out. just bought a leather slip on sling from cabelas for my tc hawken.
